Am I a workaholic? I dont like being absent from work, so I don't like others to do that too. Reasons for absent from work must be very concrete and must be very urgent. If you are really sick, you may take sick leave. If your close family are sick/dead you may take leave too. Close family refers to your mom/dad, mom in-law/dad in-law, wife/husband and children. I dont think you should simply take leave and left you work because someone not in the 'close' context. To me it is very bad if you even take leave just because your cat is dead!!
p/s i'm sick of people who always have reasons for not doing their job at their best.
